Enhanced Security on Moving Vehicles Mandatory from August
It will be mandatory to install a second-generation smart tachograph by August this year, in a move to enhance security for moving vehicles.
The move, announced by the Italian association AITI, will be mandatory for vehicles that weigh more than 3.5 tonnes and carry out international transport operations.
They will also be mandatory on vehicles engaged only on domestic transport that were registered after 21 August 2023.
From 1 July 2026, the obligation will be extended to include vehicles weighing between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes engaged in international transport operations.
Big Beautiful Bill To Impact Movers
US President Donald Trump’s OneBig Beautiful Bill Act, introduced tax reforms in the United States that will impact on relocation services.
Among the measures include limiting the deductions for moving expenses provided by employers, and a 1% tax on international remittances. This may result in corporations needing to reassess their global mobility programmes with multinational moving companies impacted by reforms to a range of taxes that could influence how profits are reported and taxed across borders.
Industry sources are advising relocation providers to work with tax advisors to update pricing models and contract terms.
In a statement The International Association of Movers (IAM) stated that a potential tax on non-profit organisations, such as trade associations, was not included in the legislation.
“The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) coordinated with trade associations around the country, as they led the charge on Capitol Hill to push back against earlier proposals that had circulated through financially-focused House Committees,” they said in a statement posted online.
