Logistics Growth in Focus: Self-Storage Surge, EV Expansion & a New Hub in the North

John Mason Announced Expansion

John Mason International will re-establish itself with a new warehouse in West Lancashire at the end of next summer in a move to streamline operations.

The announcement was made at the BAR conference in Liverpool by Executive Director Simon Hood as the company’s new headquarters will also act as a regional trading hub, opening doors for removals companies looking to work in the north.

Hood said the move will facilitate clients who seek a multitude of requirements when engaging in overseas shipping:

“This new facility is more than a warehouse - it’s a dedicated hub for movers who want to streamline their international operations in the north. We’ve built it specifically to meet the needs of trade clients who require fast turn around, secure storage, and a team who knows the complexities of overseas shipping.”

UK Self Storage Sector Expands

The UK self-storage sector has expanded by over 7% increasing available storage space to a total of 64.3 million square feet.

That’s according to the 18th, annual UK Self Storage Industry Report 2025 which has been released recently by the Self-Storage Association UK (SSA UK).

While there was a slight decline of 1%decline in occupancy rates, sources indicate that the industry remains resilient, with new stores opening and a strong pipeline for future developments.

The average rental return has increased by 6% to £29.13 per square foot, indicating strong demand. However, the churn rate remains high at 97%, indicating frequent customer turnover.

DKV EV Increase

DKV announced it had well over 800,000EV charge points across Europe – an increase of around 41% year-on-year.

The company also announced increased demand for EV charge cards with over 798,000 cards in circulation – an increase of around 35% over the same period.

DKV also recorded a 17% rise in alternative fuels such as LNG, CNG, and hydrogen.
